Application restrictions

No restrictions for the technical application area of the product.

Special training/qualifications

None required

2. COMPOSITION / INGREDIENT SPECIFICATIONS

Hardened polyester/phenol reinforced with glass fibres with a diameter of 9 - 20 µ. The liquid resin contains styrene that forms a web during the hardening process. The hardened workpieces can contain small residual amounts of styrene (< 5%). This is released extremely slowly.

3. DETERMINING DANGERS

With regard to their properties, profiles and grates made from glass-fibre reinforced plastics are not dangerous. However, the dust that can form when products are cut or ground can cause irritation to the eyes, mucous membranes, and skin.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Eyes:

Thoroughly rinse eyes with copious amounts of water. Keep your eyes open when rinsing them. If you wear contact lenses, take them out. If the irritation continues, contact a doct

Skin:

Thoroughly rinse off dust resulting from cutting or grinding with water. Prevent against irritation by using a suitable barrier cream.

Airways:

Any person who breathes in large quantities of dust should immediately be placed in the open air.
If irritation continues, contact a doctor.

5. EXTINGUISHING FIRES

Extinguishing agents:

Water, powder, foam, or CO. Normal fire gases are released.
In the case of polyester, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and carbon black are released.
In the case of phenol, the formation of smoke is well below permitted values.
The emission of toxic smoke gases is also extremely low.

6. MEASURES FOR UNINTENDED EMISSIONS

No emissions caused by the products are possible.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

Handling

During processing, jointing and grinding can cause the formation of dust that contains glass fibres. Make sure that the work area has sufficient ventilation or provide dust masks to prevent workers from breathing in dust resulting from cutting or grinding. The product contains low residual quantities of styrene monomers that can detach from the cutting surface. If carrying out frequent jointing or grinding in small rooms, ventilation may be beneficial in order to prevent dust from being breathed in. However, the styrene content is so low that it poses no danger to health.

Storage

No special measures required.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROL AND PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Technical measures

When machining parts, ensure adequate ventilation and precision extraction. In addition, observe any exposure limit values that apply to workplaces in the country of work.

Personal protective equipment

Breathing protection:

If sufficient ventilation is not provided, reliable masks with dust filters must be worn when carrying out jointing or grinding.

Eye protection:

Wear safety goggles.

Skin protection:

No measures other than ensuring that clean work clothes that cover the whole body are worn. If required, barrier cream can be applied to the neck and wrists to prevent irritation.

9. PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES

State

Stable, heterogeneous material

Odour

The material smells slightly of styrene, but the odour threshold is very low (around 0.1 ppm).

Spontaneous combustion temperature

490 ° C

Water solubility

Not soluble in water

10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY

The product is stable under normal storage and temperature conditions.

11. TOXICITY SPECIFICATIONS

Inhalation

During grinding / jointing work, the resulting dust can enter the mucous membranes of the airways. Dust particles can cause irritation to the lungs.

Eyes

During grinding / jointing work, the resulting dust can cause irritation to the eyes.

Skin

Grinding dust can cause temporary irritation to the skin, particularly in the neck and wrist areas.

12. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

The product is extremely stable and barely degrades.

13. DISPOSAL

Waste can be burned or disposed of in landfills.

14. TRANSPORT

The product is not classified as a hazardous substance.

15. SPECIAL REGULATIONS

None.

16. OTHER SPECIFICATIONS

In accordance with EEC Directive 99/155/EEC, no safety data sheet is required for this product; however, the present data sheet was formulated in accordance with this directive. The specifications above are based on current knowledge and EC legislation. They also assume that the product is being used for normal purposes in accordance with point 1. The user is always completely responsible for ensuring that any laws valid in the country of use are observed. The specifications in this data sheet should be seen as recommended safety measures. They do not constitute a product property guarantee.
